Dead Dog Creek

Winthrop Harbor, Illinois

Dead Dog Creek is a small tributary to Lake Michigan that drains approximately three square miles of land in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. This section of Dead Dog Creek is located directly upstream from the Illinois Beach State Park Nature Preserve where there are many high quality vegetated communities which need to be protected from sediment deposits. The project included restoration of 2,900 linear feet of Dead Dog Creek, including 17 rock riffles, five rock points, and 2,300 linear feet rock toe among the many unique features.  V3 installed 11,500 square yards of native seed and erosion control blanket and over 12,000 native plugs, followed up by two years of maintenance and management of the native seed and plugs.
