This interstate improvement project included Phase II design engineering services for the widening and reconstruction of 6.5 miles of I-90 from the Elgin Toll Plaza to Higgins Road. The proposed improvements include the addition of a fourth travel lane in each direction, a widened inside shoulder, the reconstruction of three cross-road bridges and two mainline bridges, the full reconstruction of two interchanges (at IL 25 and IL 31) as well as the partial reconstruction of two interchanges (at Beverly Road and IL 59). The project also includes the reconstruction of five ramp toll plazas, the installation of retaining walls and noise abatement walls, the implementation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure and the relocation/protection of existing utilities. Seven individual construction contracts – representing a total construction cost of $250 million – were prepared to allow construction of the improvements within the project limits from 2014 to 2016. V3 was also responsible for providing an update to the original 2008 Master Planning Study as well as Construction Management support services for each of the construction contracts.
