The Northerly Island project involved site civil design of a concert venue and planting and managing the restored prairie on the former Meigs Field airport facility located along Chicago’s lakefront. V3 provided surveying, design, permitting, planting and construction services in a tight timeframe in order to open the venue in time for the summer concert season. The site grading and drainage, utilities, and pavement design were challenging due to the limited ability for earth movement and tight site constraints of the island. The resulting concert venue accommodates 21,000 spectators in a spectacular setting with the Chicago skyline as a backdrop. The prairie restoration has returned the island to it’s ecological origins and is now a public amenity for all to enjoy.
