Master planning of this 11,000-acre site with 15 miles of coastline included a wide variety of land applications, including residential housing, commercial, retail, service industries, resorts, recreation, a seaport and an airport. Phase One of the project included approximately 1,500 residential units of various types and approximately 50,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. A key challenge was the site’s undeveloped, desolate location, including lack of potable water source. V3 geoscientists discovered a rare source of groundwater, analyzed the capacity of the aquifer and oversaw well design implementation and construction. The work also included onsite construction management and survey for the construction of a roadway and taught local residents how to operate machinery and construct the road. The project was an ACEC-Illinois Honor Award Winner.
