Route 59 Metra Station Parking Lot & Intersection Improvements

Aurora, Illinois

V3 provided value engineering and design services for the reconfiguration and expansion of the IL Route 59 Metra Station parking lot. A new signalized driveway, which included a triple box culvert, was added to improve pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular and bus access to the train station. A signalized dedicated bus staging area also was added to give priority to buses leaving the train station. Because the project was federally funded using Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds and V3 incorporated a unique, progressive approach to pavement rehabilitation, the project team coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration to allow this process to be implemented. V3 also replaced the City’s existing parking lot lights with LED fixtures and designed a new security camera system that was compatible to the City’s fiber-optic system.
