Planner – Alberta

V3 Companies, a multidisciplinary AEC firm, is seeking a Planner in our Sherwood Park office, where you will contribute to career-defining projects that reimagine our built and natural world.

You’ll change the shape of your community by charting plans that become tomorrow’s places, creating impact that lasts. And, as part of our Planning team, you will collaborate with 450+ designers, engineers, and scientists to make meaningful, effective change across North America. The work is diverse and collaborative, offering exposure to municipal policy planning, development planning, engagement processes, and interdisciplinary project delivery.

Whether supporting research and analysis, preparing planning documents, or contributing to complex planning initiatives, you’ll play a role in shaping places where people live, work, and play.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Support planning projects through research, analysis, and preparation of planning documents and reports.
  • Prepare maps, graphics, diagrams, and presentation materials to communicate planning concepts and project outcomes.
  • Conduct research and collect data related to land use policy, municipal regulations, market conditions, demographics, infrastructure, and environmental considerations.
  • Assist with the preparation of statutory plans and policy documents such as Municipal Development Plans, Area Structure Plans, Land Use Bylaws, and Intermunicipal planning documents.
  • Support development planning assignments including rezoning, subdivision, development permit, and appeal applications.
  • Assist with public and stakeholder engagement activities, including preparation of engagement materials and participation in meetings or workshops.

Supporting our broader work, you may also:

  • Assist with site analysis, development feasibility assessments, and land use evaluations.
  • Prepare visual and written materials to support council presentations, public meetings, and client briefings.
  • Help coordinate project information, schedules, and documentation within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives such as developing templates, improving workflows, and supporting knowledge sharing across the planning team.

We’re looking for:

  • A planning professional with a strong interest in community development, land use planning, and collaborative project work.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban, Regional, or Rural Planning (or a related discipline) from a program accredited by the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of professional planning experience, ideally within consulting, municipal government, or related environments.
  • Eligibility for or progress toward professional membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
  • Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing professional reports, graphics, or presentations.
  • Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with SketchUp, AutoCAD, or other design tools is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of Alberta’s planning framework and the relationship between provincial legislation, statutory plans, and municipal land use regulations.

Planning Intern – Alberta

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting planning projects that shape communities across Alberta. Working alongside planners, engineers, and surveyors, you will contribute to assignments that range from long-range policy planning to development applications and land use analysis.

This position provides exposure to the day-to-day work of planning consulting, including research, mapping, policy analysis, and preparation of planning documents. You’ll be part of a collaborative team environment and gain experience working on real projects that influence how communities grow and develop.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Support planning projects through research, data collection, and preparation of planning documents and reports.
  • Prepare maps, graphics, diagrams, and presentation materials to communicate planning concepts and project findings.
  • Conduct research related to land use policy, municipal regulations, demographics, infrastructure, and development trends.

We’re looking for:

  • A student with an interest in community development, land use planning, and the role planning plays in shaping communities.
  • Candidates should be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban, Regional, or Rural Planning from a program accredited by the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Students in Bachelor’s programs should have completed at least two years of study prior to the start of the internship. Students in Master’s programs should have completed at least one year of study prior to the start of the internship.
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in learning how planning projects are delivered in a consulting environment.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is considered an asset. Familiarity with tools such as SketchUp or other visualization software is also beneficial.

Senior Construction Engineer

You’ll change the shape of your community by connecting people and designing roads, creating impact that lasts. And, as part of our Transportation team, you will collaborate with 450+ designers, engineers, and scientists to make meaningful, effective change across North America.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Clients to prepare construction contracts and technical specifications, including administration of tender processes.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of quantity take-offs, and opinions of probable costs.
  • Provide oversight and support for Resident Engineers and Technologists.
  • Review, respond to, and negotiate contractor change order requests and RFI’s.
  • Provide recommendations for resolution of on-site design conflicts in collaboration with Design Engineers.
  • Participate in/chair construction meetings with Clients, Contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular communication with Clients to provide status updates.
  • Prepare progress payment certificates and recommendations for payment
  • Serve as a liaison between V3 project teams, clients, contractors, and municipalities.
  • Track project budgets, including both construction and consulting costs through construction and post-construction.
  • Attend post-construction inspections and prepare necessary documentation for Construction Completion and Final Acceptance Certificates.
  • Review progress reporting, and documents prepared by Resident Engineers/Technologists ensuring compliance with relevant specifications.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff in field-based and construction administration roles.
  • Undertake role of Field Reviewer, as described in APEGA’s Field Reviews of Engineering and Geoscience Work Professional Practice Guideline.

Supporting other aspects of our work, including pursuits, design, and post-construction activities, you will:

  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for upcoming projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers to provide constructability input during the design of our projects.
  • Perform earthwork calculations and surface analysis for earth balance
  • Undertake the technical design of projects to align with your experience levels and career objectives and authenticate, where applicable.
  • Oversee the compilation of project close-out documentation including record drawings, commissioning packages, testing documents.

We’re looking for:

  • Designation as a P.Eng.
  • 7+ years of experience with Construction Administration on Transportation and Economic Corridors projects and/or municipal engineering projects, including roadways.
  • Knowledge of construction practices for earthworks, deep and shallow utilities, surface works, drainage, and landscaping.
  • Experience with Transportation and Economic Corridors and municipal construction standards, and construction contracts.
  • Experience in construction surveying, design, and Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Strong ability to manage time with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong communicator and ability to work with teams.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Perform earthwork calculations and surface analysis for earth balance evaluations and contractor payment benchmarks during construction.
  • Create project unit price schedules, quantity take-offs, and opinions of cost estimates.
  • Generate construction contract and specification documents.
