Ecological Restoration Internship
Work alongside field ecologists to get hands-on restoration experience and discover what it’s like to transform environments in your community.
Grow With Us Next Summer
Our Ecological Restoration (ER) Internship goes beyond a summer job by providing the exposure and mentorship needed for the next step in your career. Paired with our Seasonal Field Technician position, this opportunity offers a holistic understanding of how restoration projects work across disciplines to make meaningful change.
Interns work in the field alongside our experts to learn about native and non-native Illinois plant species, local ecotypes, and principles of ecological restoration and stewardship. Additional site tours and trainings deepen subject-matter understanding and empower participants to make informed career decisions.

Our internship offers:
Exposure to career path options
Hands-on experience on active job sites
Mentorship and 1:1 support
Training from subject-matter experts
Qualifications:
- Accept a position of Seasonal Field Technician with the ER group.
- Available to work June-August (program runs June 1-early August)
- Pursuing a degree in or related to Ecological Restoration (such as Biology, Botany, Environmental Science/Studies, Geology, Natural Resources, Water Resources, etc.)
- Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm to the ecological restoration, conservation, and stewardship of Illinois native habitat.
- Self-motivated with schedule flexibility.

It helps to have a team that encourages questions and is always happy to take the time to teach you anything and everything! Take advantage of all the cumulative knowledge and experience the coworkers around you have to offer!
Paige Antiporek

My biggest takeaway from this experience is that it is so important to connect with others and ask about their career journey. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the people around you and figure out what you’re most interested in.
