26th Street & Ridgeland Avenue Access to Transit
To enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety and improve access to transit, the City of Berwyn initiated improvements along the 26th Street and Ridgeland Avenue corridors—spanning 3 miles and including 2 IDOT routes. We led engineering services for this federally funded project, designing targeted enhancements such as upgraded lighting, pedestrian beacons, and streetscape elements. We also ensured compliance with all regulatory requirements and supported public engagement through bilingual materials and community-focused renderings.
Key Contributions:
Multimodal Safety Enhancements
We evaluated pedestrian and bike travel patterns to guide improvements like bump-outs, sightline adjustments, pedestrian-activated beacons, and upgraded lighting for safer crossings.
Corridor Resurfacing & Design
We incorporated pavement resurfacing into the design scope to ensure long-term durability and smoother travel across the corridor.
Funding Strategy & Compliance
We assisted the City of Berwyn in securing funding from multiple sources and ensured all engineering services met federal, state, and local requirements through IDOT’s Bureau of Local Roads.
Community Engagement
We developed bilingual outreach materials and coordinated translators to support inclusive public engagement. We also created renderings to help the community visualize and support the proposed improvements.
