Greater Chicago Food Depository Building Addition

This project included an approximately 38,000-square-foot building addition to the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s existing facility, reconfiguration of the loading docks on the east side of the building, a new employee and visitor parking lot, and a new parking lot for the storage of delivery trucks. We provided traffic engineering and site planning services as part of the planned development approval process.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
Environmental Permitting
The redevelopment of the vacant parcel on the west side of Keeler Avenue required extensive coordination for the environmental permitting and compliance as widespread soil contamination was present throughout the property. Environmental requirements were incorporated into the final site improvement plans.
Stormwater Management Design
Significant stormwater management improvements were needed to meet the requirements of the Chicago Stormwater Ordinance. The existing turf grass stormwater detention basin was expanded and converted to a naturalized basin with native plantings, and a new naturalized basin was constructed at the northwest corner of the property.
ADA Sidewalk & Ramp Design
The parkway along 40th Street and Ann Lurie Place was redeveloped to meet current CDOT standards and included new curbs, sidewalks, ramps, parkway trees, and ornamental fencing.
Landscape Architecture
Our landscape architects worked closely with the Owner and Architect to develop plantings plans with a heavy focus on native plants and landscapes. Landscape design also included the development of decorative lighting and irrigation plans.
LEED Certification Assistance
Our team provided LEED consulting services to help achieve various site and landscape focused credits.
