Mustang Run Stream Restoration
The Mustang Run stream restoration and culvert design project played a crucial role in enabling the Mile High One industrial development, which spans both sides of the stream. This project involved creating two new crossings of Mustang Run between I-25 and Washington Street. Our team conducted comprehensive hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to explore potential flow reductions, given the discrepancies between FEMA flows and recent model results. We designed stream restoration for approximately half a mile of Mustang Run, utilizing HEC-RAS 2D analysis to map flow patterns and ensure effective channel and overbank protection. During the project, an eagle’s nest was discovered, prompting necessary environmental considerations and delays. Currently, we are assisting with the conditional letter of map revision and formal map revision process, with conceptual approval from the Mile High Flood District and pending final approvals for the stream restoration design plans.
