PTB 192-010 Phase I Studies for Five Structures Crossing Waterways

As part of IDOT District 3’s infrastructure improvement program, we provided Phase I engineering services for five bridge structures crossing various waterways. The purpose of this effort was to assess existing conditions, evaluate hydraulic performance, and develop replacement strategies that meet IDOT standards for safety, durability, and environmental compliance.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
Field Surveys & Bridge Inspections
We performed detailed field surveys and bridge inspections for five structures, documenting existing conditions and deterioration to inform design decisions.
Civil Engineering
We developed efficient site plans and grading solutions to ensure proper drainage, accessibility, and long-term durability of the courts.
Engineering Reports & Drawings
We prepared bridge condition reports, hydraulic reports, and type, size, and location (TS&L) drawings.
Structure-Specific Solutions:
• US Route 45 & US Route 52 over Rock Creek: We recommended replacing the existing three-span concrete slab bridge with a longer, three-span steel beam structure on integral abutments and drilled shaft piers.
• IL Route 17 over East Branch of Horse Creek: We proposed a single-span PPC beam bridge to replace the aging three-span slab structure, improving hydraulic efficiency and reducing maintenance.
• US Route 34 over Sutphens Run: We designed a new three-span steel beam bridge with integral abutments and solid wall piers to replace the deteriorated T-beam structure.
• IL Route 17 over Drainage Ditch: We replaced the single-span T-beam bridge with a triple-cell box culvert.
• IL Route 1 over Gay Creek: We replaced the reinforced concrete slab bridge with a double-cell box culvert.
