Royce Road Reconstruction
This design/build project was for the reconstruction of Royce Road to raise the road profile significantly and accommodate a large box culvert system to prevent stormwater from overtopping the roadway during large storm events. Historically, stormwater from the DuPage River overtopped Royce Road causing extended closures multiple times each year. Our team provided both site civil design for the roadway as well as structural design for a concrete box culvert with modular retaining walls at all four corners.
Key Contributions:
Floodplain & Floodway Modeling & Permitting
Our team provided floodplain and floodway modeling as well as permitting through Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Federal Emergency Management Agency to allow for the reconstruction of the roadway.
Utility Relocation
Several utilities were relocated since the profile was being significantly raised.
Results
The completed roadway is functioning as designed and road closures are no longer necessary during heavy rain events.
