Union Pacific 3rd Mainline Track Addition

To address increasing freight volumes and alleviate congestion along the Geneva Subdivision, Union Pacific Railroad launched the addition of a third mainline track. This six-mile expansion is essential for improving rail traffic flow, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term reliability for both freight and commuter services. The project also replaces aging infrastructure and resolves safety concerns through new bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and upgraded station facilities. As the construction managers, we are leading coordination across multiple jurisdictions, managing complex site work—including construction within the Fox River—and ensuring uninterrupted service for Union Pacific and Metra throughout the project.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
Construction Oversight
We are managing all aspects of construction for six miles of new track grading, including bridges at the Fox River and IL Route 31, soldier pile retaining walls with tiebacks, and crashwalls at the Randall Road overpass.
Station & Infrastructure Enhancements
We are overseeing the installation of new warming houses and platforms at the Metra Geneva station, along with the replacement of existing culverts using jack-and-bore methods and comprehensive site drainage improvements.
Agency Coordination
We are facilitating communication and permitting across multiple agencies, ensuring that all work complies with regulatory requirements and environmental considerations—especially for construction within the Fox River.
Operational Continuity
We are prioritizing coordination with Union Pacific and Metra to maintain uninterrupted rail service throughout the project, minimizing impact on daily operations and commuter schedules.
