LaGrange Road Corridor Improvements Project Wins Two Awards

December 15, 2018

The LaGrange Road Corridor Improvements Project received an ACEC Illinois 2019 Engineering Excellence Merit Award and APWA Project of the Year for the Southwest Branch.

The LaGrange Road Corridor Improvement project was a 6.5-mile streetscape project through the major retail corridor of Orland Park consisting of more than two million square feet of retail and restaurant facilities. This corridor experiences more than 70,000 vehicles per day and construction of the improvements was to be completed simultaneously with an IDOT road widening project of the same stretch of roadway. The project vision was to create an “experience” for travelers and retail customers that would both heighten the retailer’s profile and increase customer traffic to the area. Through a construction management at-risk delivery system, this project was executed by the Village and V3 Construction Group to provide widened/decorative sidewalks, raised brick median walls, monument signage, electrical provisions for holiday lighting and all associated irrigation and landscape improvements. The risk of scope variations and “change orders” to the Village was drastically mitigated by suitably defining the annual work, and with the scope defined the trade contractors were able to provide more competitive pricing.  By executing this work through the construction management at-risk delivery system, V3 was able to return to the Village in excess of $1 million. In cooperation with the Village, V3 developed an approach to deliver this project through a construction management at-risk contract.  Individual trade scopes were bid and awarded annually to match the actual work that was available to complete in sequence with IDOT.
