Celebrating Our 2023 Summer Interns for National Intern Day

July 26, 2023

National Intern Day recognizes the importance of creating entry-level career opportunities that build professional skills for the next generation of talent. At V3, our internship and co-op program provides meaningful, hands-on experiences to help students see what it’s really like to work in their chosen field. Career development is one of our firm’s primary focuses; in fact, nearly 10% of our team started as V3 interns! Learn more about our internship program and what this year’s students have to say about their experiences.

What Our 2023 Interns Say

This year we have 21 interns across our five regional offices, all of whom are diving into real projects and learning on the job. Here’s what a few of them are saying about their experiences so far!

“I have been enjoying everything I have been doing. Being able to work with a company like V3 has been a blast and a true eye opener of what I want to do with my career. Land development was my focus going into school and it will be my focus coming out of school thanks to V3 and this opportunity.”

Lucas Reese | Senior at University of North Carolina at Charlotte

“Being put into a project with a fast-approaching deadline has been awesome. Team members have been so helpful by sitting down and explaining the steps taken in the preliminary engineering phase and why we do things the way we do. They have then given me the reins and I have been working in parallel with them on different tasks. I really enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and ownership I have in parts of this project and how much I have been encouraged to grow and push myself throughout the process. It is a great feeling to be an intern and heavily involved on a project!”

Brittany Alvarez | Senior at University of Notre Dame

“Being able to work as a team and come together to find a solution for any given problem is something truly fascinating to be part of. I will be taking everything I’ve learned during my time here and carrying it on in the future as a professional engineer.”

Kevin Diaz | Junior at University of Illinois Chicago

“To put into words what I have learned thus far would take hours. I feel a lot more competent using Civil3D and developing high quality work to bring to my superiors. I have learned most aspects of a project by working with various projects at different phases. Before V3, I knew almost nothing about site infrastructure, erosion control, or development ordinances. I now feel like I have the tools to make a difference on project tasks handed to me.”

Zackary Hogan | Senior at University of North Carolina at Charlotte

“V3 has trusted me with a fair amount of design which I definitely wasn’t expecting coming into my internship. I have learned a lot about engineering specs and why they are in place for certain designs simply from the amount of quantity estimates and research they have me do.”

Eli Gregg | Sophomore at Ohio University

V3’s Internship & Co-Op Program

Every summer, we welcome a new class of interns to help bring their studies to life. Many of our interns are future engineers, specializing in structural, civil, construction, or transportation engineering, as well as landscape architecture, natural resources, surveying, and more.

We pair interns with staff members at various levels to give broad career perspectives. Not only do students get to learn from our most seasoned experts, but they also connect with former V3 interns who are now full-time team members.

We take our interns’ goals seriously, offering them hands-on participation and career advice along the way. Our interns become part of our team, enjoying many of the benefits of full-time employment:

  • Career charters: Set goals and learn how to achieve them.
  • Volunteer opportunities: Give back through one of our philanthropic partners.
  • Team support: Ask questions and get guidance from field experts.
  • Social events: Have fun at our end-of-the-summer intern celebration.

Find Opportunity at V3

We’ve loved working with our interns this summer and are always looking for talented, passionate individuals who want to make a difference. Our firm is growing; explore our current career opportunities to learn more!
