18th Avenue Upgrading & Sunrise Pond Trail

18th Avenue—a busy access route through Drayton Valley—had outgrown its original design, with great need for safety, drainage, and pedestrian access improvements. Our team provided engineering services for roadway widening, in addition to creating an asphalt trail adjacent to the road and around a stormwater management pond. This design was challenging as the existing right-of-way varied in width. Ditches were graded to account for the varying widths, while still conforming to the Town’s design standards and specifications. We developed a cost-effective design by incorporating the existing shallow utilities and furniture into the proposed alignment and profile of the roadway. Today, 18th Avenue provides better a transportation experience for motorists while the new asphalt trail promotes recreational usage of existing Town-owned facilities.
