Leonard Park Drainage Improvement Study
Leonard Park—a subdivision in Mifflin Township, Franklin County—has historically experienced frequent had flooding issues. With a recent increase in demand for buildable lots within the subdivision, the Franklin County Engineer’s Office hired our team to perform a flood study on the existing Mason Run that cuts through the subdivision. We are working to retrofit new ditch lines and storm sewers along the eight main neighborhood roads to help prevent street flooding while also providing direct access for homes to tie their downspouts to. When completed, this project will provide peace of mind for residents worried about water damage and transportation delays.

Project Highlights
- Project challenges have included working around all the existing utilities while trying to limit the impact to the existing neighborhood. We have been working closely with the County to determine the best path moving forward to keep costs in check while making sure we still provide an effective solution.
- The project consists of the eight primary east/west streets in the Leonard Park subdivision, between Stelzer Road and Mifflin Blvd – Armuth, Aberdeen, Minnesota, Genessee, Earl, Emmons, Missouri, and Georgia. Each street is expected to be retrofitted with storm sewer towards Mason Run.
- The Leonard Park subdivision is unique in that the 270 (Columbus’ main freeway outer belt) / 670 (freeway offshoot of US-70) interchange was built over the eastern half of the original platted subdivision. Most of the subdivision borders I-270 to the east, but there’s a small portion of the original subdivision that’s been separated from the neighborhood by the highway.
