Walker Station

Walker Station was envisioned as the first Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) in Pinehurst and Moore County, setting a new benchmark for community-focused design. Located along historic Midland Road, the neighborhood combines timeless architecture with modern livability, featuring walkable streets, front porches, and landscaped village greens that foster interaction and provide sustainable stormwater solutions. We were engaged as the land planning consultant to guide this pioneering project through rezoning and design, ensuring its vision became a reality. Walker Station’s successful implementation set a precedent for future development in the region and is now referenced as a model for neighborhood planning throughout Moore County.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
Land Planning & Rezoning Leadership
We collaborated closely with Village of Pinehurst staff to navigate a conditional rezoning process at a time when no ordinance standards existed for this type of development. Our leadership ensured regulatory alignment while preserving the project’s innovative design intent.
Design Standards Development
We leveraged our national experience in Traditional Neighborhood Development to establish new design standards tailored to Walker Station’s vision. These standards introduced rear-loaded alley homes, shaded walkable streets, on-street parking, and a compact, high-character single-family layout.
Community-Centered Design
We created a plan inspired by New England village design, prioritizing people over vehicles and integrating landscaped greens that serve both as gathering spaces and stormwater management features.
