Wetaskiwin County Land Use Bylaw Rewrite & Update

Following the adoption of Wetaskiwin County’s new Municipal Development Plan, we were engaged to lead the rewrite and update of the County’s Land Use Bylaw. The purpose was to align the bylaw with the County’s future vision, streamline development processes, reduce regulatory barriers, and create a more user-friendly document that supports economic growth and community resilience.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
Policy Alignment & Modernization
We are updating the bylaw to reflect current and future development trends, applying regulatory best practices, and removing outdated or redundant content to improve clarity and usability.
District & Use Optimization
We are identifying new land uses, consolidating existing districts where appropriate, and refining definitions and regulations to better support evolving community needs.
Administrative & Structural Improvements
We are reviewing and updating administrative provisions and general regulations, while redesigning the document layout to include explanatory and illustrative diagrams for improved accessibility.
Strategic Public Engagement
We developed a robust engagement plan to inform and educate the public, counter misinformation, and build trust. This included posters, social media ads, and surveys, with in-person session held in four locations across the County.
Community Empowerment
We ensured residents had meaningful opportunities to participate in shaping the bylaw, fostering transparency and helping build a more informed and resilient community.
