Repairs of 71st Street & 83rd Street Bridges over Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355)

The Village of Woodridge needed to provide the Illinois Tollway with a structural report for the 71st and 83rd Street bridges, both of which are two-span structures with an eight-inch deck supported on PPC beams. Because the Village is responsible for the superstructures of these bridges above the beams, they hired our team to perform the inspections and prepare the reports that included inspection observations, areas of deficiency, recommended repairs, and an estimate of probable cost for the recommended repairs. We provided Phase I, II, and III engineering services for this STP-funded project. Repairs were completed under a full bridge closure and required detour-route coordination between additional Tollway and Village projects.

Project Highlights:

  • Our team prepared plans for deck rehabilitation on the 71st Street and 83rd Street bridges over I-355. The project limits consisted of the bridge and the connecting pavement.
  • The bridge decks were scarified 3/4-inches before a 2.25-inch overlay was installed. A 1.5-inch overlay of HMA surface was also placed on the approach slabs.
