We are thrilled to welcome Michael McWhirter as our Water Market Leader. With over 20 years of experience spanning 15 countries, Michael’s extensive engineering, leadership, and project delivery experience will accelerate our growth in water solutions, supporting our desire to make real, impactful change for the environment and the communities we serve across North America.
Michael is known for his expertise in water treatment, water recycling, waste-to-energy solutions, pumping and infrastructure development. He also brings with him extensive experience with alternative project delivery approaches such as progressive design build and construction management at risk. His work has consistently focused on delivering sustainable and resilient solutions for communities across the globe, from tsunami in Indonesia to implementing UV disinfection technology in Paris to building large-scale water treatment facilities in the U.S.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honors from the University of Canterbury in Chemical and Process Engineering and has worked with notable firms and organizations such as Stantec, MWH, and the American Red Cross.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife, two kids, and their Catahoula Leopard Dog, Jax. Born in New Zealand, he’s traveled and lived around the world including Indonesia, where he picked up a second language. He loves the outdoors and recently kayaked the fastest-flowing navigable river in North America.
